Rev. Dr. Benjamin N. Thomas Sr., has been serving as pastor of Historic Tanner Chapel AME Church since 1991. Prior to coming to Phoenix to pastor Tanner Chapel, Pastor Thomas served as the pastor of Price Chapel A.M.E. Church in Los Angeles, California, Walker Chapel A.M.E. Church in Seattle, Washington, and Handy Chapel A.M.E. Church in Joplin, Missouri. Pastor Thomas is dedicated to not only his church family but to the community as well and serves on various boards and organizations in the Phoenix metropolitan area. It is because of his committment, care and concern for the community in which he lives and serves in that he founded in 2001, Tanner Community Development Corporation (TCDC), a non-profit organization. TCDC serves both as a direct service provider and as an intermediary connecting the African American community of need with businesses, government, religious institutions and non-profits to share resources in support of its programs and initiatives. Reverend Thomas is a dedicated family man, married to Beverly K. Thomas. They have one child, Rev. Benjamin Jr., “Rev BJ”, (Tamara Thomas) who is a graduate of Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and is now attending Payne Theological Seminary in Phoenix, Arizona. Rev. BJ is pursuing a Master’s of Divinity Degree. Rev. & Mrs. Thomas also have one granddaughter, Samara Jean Thomas. For more information about our pastor, click here for his complete bio. |
